This blog contains weekly journal entries for glover's film history class at Champlain College in Burlington VT. The plain template is in effect because it does not crop the youtube imbeds. Students are expected to post a minimum of 1 response a week, plus 1 comment on a peer post. Feel free to add relevant imbeds or links, or to use the blog for related off-topic threads, or to post your presentations for use in class, or viewing after.

At first I thought that Geoff's Citizen Kane presentation was going to be a repeat of what we discussed in class. However, he brought some new things to talk about like the shot that goes through the sign, which was extremely difficult to accomplish especially considering the time period it was made in. Another interesting thing that he informed us on was that the premise was based off William Randolf Hearst, which I believes makes the movie more interesting.
Similar to Nick, I thought it would be a repeat. I looked into Hearst when I was writing my post on Citizen Kane, but never knew he actually tried to build that Xanzadu place. I was curious to see where that place is now. It's hard to believe that he had that much to build that place like the movie described. That was one of the throbbing thoughts I had during and after your presentation. Overall, your presentation gave me a better respect and understanding of the movie of why it is so heavily regarded. Most of it went over my head until you showed that it really was that complete of a movie.
I was impressed with Geoff's passion regarding the film. I remember it from class, being decent. I had come away thinking it was one of those great films you watch every so often. Geoff did a great job analyzing each particular bit of mise-en-scene, social implications and overall atmosphere. He seemed very knowledgeable and I feel like I learned a lot more than I would if I had just simply watched the movie again. Good job.
